Thor: God of Thunder #25
Branded a “God-Sized Final Issue!”, Jason Aaron’s “Thor: God of Thunder” #25 hammers home thirty pages of story, split into two chapters with a framing sequence that hails from the future of King Thor as his granddaughters, the Girls of Thunder, rifle through the great library of Asgard. In what should become a regularly scheduled feature Atli, Frigg and Ellisiv share a pair of stories and are about to indulge in a book titled “Unworthy” when the issue ends and King Thor chases them from the library. As for the tales they did get through, each is illustrated by a different artist and Jason Aaron adds to the legend of Thor by telling tales of Malekith’s rise to power and young Thor’s battles on Midgard (or, as it is more popularly known, Earth). All of the scenes in the library throughout “Thor: God of Thunder” #25 are wonderfully illustrated by regular series artist Esad Ribic, who continues to deliver gorgeous work for the adventures of Thor. Ive Svorcina brings the standard-issue,

Thor: God of Thunder #23
“The Last Days of Midgard” storyline hits its finale in “Thor: God of Thunder” #23, written by Jason Aaron with art from Esad Ribic, colors from Ive Svorcina and lettering from Joe Sabino. “Blood of the Earth” brings about the conclusion of future-King Thor’s battle with Galactus and pauses the chess match between current-day Thor and Dario Agger, also known as the Minotaur. While all five installments of this storyline have featured the present and the future, Aaron blurs the lines between the two a bit more convincingly in “Thor: God of Thunder” #23, cutting from one scene to the other as the thunder god is leaping into battle in the present and connecting with his quarry in the future. King Thor fights Galactus with a surprise weapon in hand, but one that makes a degree of sense to readers who been with the series throughout. In addition to balancing the two timelines nicely, Aaron spreads around the wealth to all of the characters in “Thor: God of Thunder” #23, giving Thor (both

Thor: God of Thunder #21
Twenty-one issues in, and “Thor: God of Thunder” is fittingly epic, awesome and all other adjectives Asgardian. Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic hit the high point of their “The Last Days of Midgard” arc in this issue, with slash-and-smash action in the future and a tough-to-stomach, tougher-to-fight situation for Thor in the present. Even readers who didn’t like “The Accursed” should be eager to jump back on board for this arc, because it’s impressive. Like its predecessors in “The Last Days of Midgard,” this issue features two stories: the future battle between King Thor and Old Galactus, and the present conflict between Thor and evil corporation Roxxon. In the future, Old Thor and Galactus have a classic Thor-style knockdown, and it’s a fun, fun time. For this issue, Aaron clearly isn’t interested in doing any plot work on the future storyline. There are no forward developments – just dramatic captions, epic boasts and the requisite “I say thee nay!” Ribic demonstrates his considerabl

Thor: God of Thunder #19.NOW
All-New Marvel NOW! finds its way to Midgard to sweep up the thunder god in “Thor: God of Thunder” #19.NOW, wherein Jason Aaron reacquaints readers with Roz Solomon, the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent whose specialty is environmental law. Thor took a shine to her back in “Thor: God of Thunder” # 12, which is enough to fuel good-natured teasing from Phil Coulson. In the first three pages of “Thor: God of Thunder” #19.NOW, Aaron jams in a memo from Roxxon Energy Corporation’s new chief executive officer, a glimpse into the lonely depths of space and a “You speak whale” declaration. Aaron also throws in a flying S.H.I.E.L.D. car, some dead planets, giant subs and underwater ninjas. Under Aaron, Thor isn’t simply limited to encounter other Norse gods or even gods from other pantheons, but rather against anything and everything Aaron can think of. In this comic, Aaron uses Thor to define the world around the thunder god. Thor seeks to make the world a better place and wishes for companionship along

Thor: God of Thunder #18
Under an Esad Ribic cover worthy of a Molly Hatchet album, artist Das Pastoras joins writer Jason Aaron for “Days of Wine and Dragons” in “Thor: God of Thunder” #18. In this issue, the Thor in the spotlight is the younger Thor from just after his first confrontation with Gorr. This issue, however, is less burdensome than the tale of the God Butcher or even the recently concluded “The Accursed” storyline. It’s a done-in-one story that Jason Aaron uses to deepen the canvas of Thor’s existence. In celebrating the boisterous Thor of 894 A.D., Aaron continues to showcase the Nine Realms and the mythology surrounding Thor and his Norse brethren. “Thor: God of Thunder” #18 features the telling of Thor’s friendship with Skabgagg the dragon. Sure, the issue opens with ill portent as Thor wakes up in Skabgagg’s mouth, covered in mead and vomit, but Thor and the dragon make amends as the Thunder God attempts to prove Skabgagg’s innocence to the she-Vikings of the Faroe Islands. As Aaron does s
