He is currently a registered sex offender in his home state of Ohio. The staff of Anime Punch announced on September 15 that the convention is ceasing operations. According to the message, "The unacceptable behavior from the top of the organization has lead to this decision from the staff. There is no excusing what has happened." The post clarified that any future events and projects run by staff members will not be related to Anime Punch, as Anime Punch no longer exists. The Columbus, Ohio-based organization grew out of events held at Ohio State University. The first Anime Punch convention for non-OSU students was held in 2005, and the organization also held yearly events called "Armageddicon." The staff have since hosted a number of spinoff events such as Fieldcon, and in 2008 it was the first convention to

The announcement also stated that some of the staff will launch a new event that is focused primarily on gaming. The convention began as Anime Overdose in 2003, founded by current Vice President of Business Development at Viz Media Rob Pereyda. The convention changed its name to AOD: San Francisco Animation Convention in 2006, and then finally to Animation on Display in 2007. Among the convention's guests in its final year included The Fruit of Grisaia and AOKANA: Four Rhythm Across the Blue visual novel writer Kio Nachi; visual novel illustrators p19, Pan, and Suimya; and rapper Lotus Juice. A federal judge has issued an injunction barring the organizers of Salt Lake Comic Con from using the term “Comic Con” in its name, dealing another blow to the event in its four-year-old trademark dispute with Comic-Con International. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Salt Lake producers Dan Farr and Bryan Brandenburg had petition the court to set aside a December 2017 jury verdict and order a new trial to determine who owns the name “Comic Con.” Late Thursday, U.S. District Court Judge Anthony Battaglia not only upheld the verdict, but issued the injunction and ordered Farr and Brandenburg to pay nearly $4 million in attorneys’ fees and court costs. That’s in addition to the $20,000 in corrective advertising already decreed by the 2017 verdict.
