Anime Series Like Engaged to the Unidentified

On Kobeni Yonomori’s 16th birthday, it is discovered that her grandfather arranged for her to marry the mysterious Hakuya Mitsumine. Shocked, she now finds herself living with her future husband, his deceptive little sister, and her own perverted older sister. However, Kobeni takes it in stride, adjusting to her new life and trying to learn more about the new additions.

This series is a hard one to sell unless you are scraping the bottom of the barrel for romance series. However, once you watch it, you see how charming it is. The characters are cute, the comedy is good, but the romance is a bit sparse. Regardless, it is carried by its endlessly cute OP and ED sequences. If you are looking for anime similar to Engaged to the Unidentified, head on down below.

For Fans of Arranged Marriage

Ten years ago, Raku Ichijou made a promise with a childhood friend. In the present day, this heir apparent to an intimidating yakuza family continues to wait for his friend’s return while trying to be as uninvolved in family matters as possible. However, when a rival gang invades his family’s turf, the family leaders decide Raku should start a romantic relationship with the other chief’s daughter, Chitoge.

The big similarity here is in the fact that both involve arranged marriages. Nisekoi, as it goes on for quite a long time, has more characters and conflict. Considering Hakuya is passive in every way, he isn’t much for stirring up that drama. Both have cute little moments, but they are different sort of romance shows. Nisekoi is dramatic while Engaged to the Unidentified is cute floof.

The World is Still Beautiful

Within the realms of the Sun Kingdom, it never rains. However, in the Rain Dukedom, the women of the family possess the ability to call upon the rain. So when the Sun King, recent conqueror of the world, Livius I decides to take a wife, it is only natural to pick one of those four princesses. Nike Remarcier is the youngest and only one with the ability to call the rain. Frustrated at her lot, she journeys to the kingdom and is surprised to find that the Sun King is only fifteen years old.

Both anime series are about girls that are suddenly living with a person they are engaged to. Over time, they learn about each other and feelings begin to develop. However, The World is Still Beautiful is a much more serious show.

My Wife is Student Council President

Hayato Izumi is the perfect respectable student and is running for student council president. However, after his competition, Ui Wakana, promises sex education and free condoms, she wins by a landslide. Still sore about his loss, things become even more complicated when Ui moves in with him. Apparently their parents, the filthy lushes that they are, made a drunken promise to have their kids marry each other. Can he keep their life a secret and the student council in line at the same time?

While it is missing that supernatural element, My Wife is Student Council President is much the same as Engaged to the Unidentified. The main character is unexpectedly in a relationship where their partner now lives with them and both shows angle more towards comedy than romance.

For Fans of Living With Supernaturals

Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid

Miss Kobayashi is a programmer that lives alone in her apartment. However, one day a giant green dragons ends up on her doorstep and transforms into a women in a maid outfit. Apparently Kobayashi had gotten drunk one night and ended up saving this dragon. Now, dragon Tooru intends to repay her debt through housework.

Both series deal with the sudden appearance of supernatural creatures. The big difference is that Engaged to the Unidentified plays it coy for much of the run where as Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid goes all out from the get go.

Waiting in Summer

While testing out his filming camera one night, Kaito is blown off the bridge by a streak of blue light. When he wakes up, he finds himself in his room. This leads to a meeting with an upperclassman that changes his summer forever.

If you were a touch disappointed with the general lack of romantic development in Engaged to the Unidentified, then Waiting in Summer may be more your style. It is a little more gushy in that regard, but that also makes it more dramatic.

My Bride is a Mermaid

Michishio Nagasumi is living a normal life when he almost drowns on summer vacation. He is rescued by, of all things, a beautiful mermaid. Unfortunately, she is from a yakuza family that states if a human sees a mermaid, either the human or the mermaid must die. To save her life, Michishio agrees to marry the mermaid and become part of this crazy family.

Both series are about a normal human and a supernatural being that are engaged or married due to various circumstance. This means that they end up co-habitating and end up plagued by that person’s family as well. Both are comedies, but My Bride is a Mermaid is a little more on the insane side.

For Fans of Adorable Slice of Life

Kazama thinks he has what it takes to take over his high school with his gang, even if it is just his two friends in it. However, when his gang has a run in with the four unique girls of the Game Development Club, he is shanghaied in as a member himself.

Both series have little in common in their plot. However, they are both school life slice of life shows, and unexpectedly, they are both really good comedies. They have the sort of synopsis that is hard to hook a person, but the comedy within is great.

Haruka Kotoura is a school girl that can read people’s minds. Unfortunately, it has caused her nothing but trouble, eventually causing her parent’s divorce. After she moves to a new school, she tries to avoid her classmates, but a classmate of hers finds her power not scary, but intriguing.

Both series deal with with supernatural beings that are trying to live a life. They also happen to be romance series, but Kotoura is more of a rehabilitation comedy rather than a romantic one, despite having romance.

Himouto! Umaru-Chan

Umaru Doma is, by all accounts, the perfect student. She is beautiful, smart, and respectful, at least until she gets home, anyway. Once that door closes, Umaru dons her hamster hoodie and transforms into a bratty, lazy, junk food-gorging otaku that is fully dependent on her responsible older brother Taihei. Whether it comes to playing video games or eating the right snack combinations, Umaru knows how to live.

The similarities here come in the characters. Umaru is nothing like Kobeni, but more so like a mash up of Mashiro and Benio. Both series tell the various tales of girls that act differently at school and at home, but Umaru is just about some weeb.
