Stan Lee Canceling Con Appearances Due To Pneumonia

It appears Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee’s recent string of health issues isn’t quite over yet, as the 95-year-old is currently in the midst of battling pneumonia.

“I haven’t been in touch with you lately,” Lee said in a video released by TMZ. “Had a little bout of pneumonia I’ve been fighting, but it seems to be getting better. But I want you all to know I’m thinking of you. Of course, I always think of the fans, and I hope you’re all doing well.”

Over the past few years, Lee has had to call off several appearances due to this health. After dropping two appearances in Ohio in 2012, Lee revealed that he’d had a pacemaker implanted. Lee was also rushed to hospital in 2015, though he was able to attend the red-carpet premiere of Ant-Man, which happened the next day. In 2017, Lee cancelled appearances at Big Apple Con and Salt Lake City Comic Con’s FanX.

Lee’s most recent health scare came not even a full month ago, when he was rushed to the hospital after experiencing shortness of breath and an irregular heartbeat. However, he was promptly released the very next day, and even appeared to downplay the severity of the incident.

Lee joined Timely Comics, which would later become Marvel Comics, in 1939. Along with Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, Lee helped create many of Marvel’s most iconic superheroes, including the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, Spider-Man, the Hulk and many more.
