News Final Fantasy XV's Multiplayer Expansion Slated for October 31
Expansion includes new story & new theme song by Emiko Suzuki, Nobuo Uematsu

Square Enix began streaming a trailer for its upcoming "Comrades" multiplayer expansion for its Final Fantasy XV game on Tuesday. The video reveals the expansion's October 31 release for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and also previews the expansion's new theme song "Choosing Hope," performed by Emiko Suzuki, and composed by Nobuo Uematsu.

Square Enix describes the expansion:

Set in a world engulfed by darkness, the expansion casts players as a member of the Kingsglaive, with powers and unique abilities invoked from various Lucian kings, who join forces to bring the Light back to the kingdom of Lucis. Other members of Noctis's crew including Gladiolus, Prompto and Ignis will be made playable in future game updates. As members of Kingsglaive, players equip royal sigils that grant special powers from the Lucian bloodline. Players can then strategize and create a balanced team to take on a variety of quests. In addition to multiplayer quests, single player quests are also available for players to enhance their characters.

The expansion is available for all owners of Final Fantasy XV, and is also available for those who bought the game's Season Pass.

Hajime Tabata, the game's director, said earlier this month that the game has "achieved over 6.5 million units" worldwide. Tabata didn't specify if the number is combined digital sales and shipments (as with previous milestone announcements for the game) or another metric.

Final Fantasy XV had sold an estimated 1,000,712 copies in Japan as of September 3. The number does not include digital download purchases.

Final Fantasy XV went on sale worldwide for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One last November.

Square Enix released the "Episode Prompto" story DLC for the game on June 27. The new story episode is the second in a series of story episodes focusing on each of the main characters of Final Fantasy XV. An episode focused on Ignis is slated for December. Square Enix released the "Episode Gladiolus" story episode on March 28. Additionally, an update for the game in August included a bestiary and a chapter select option.
