Writer Jason Aaron has crafted an impressive run on various volumes of Marvel Comics’ Thor over the last few years. He can do no wrong when it comes to the God of Thunder, and he proves that by using one of the publisher’s Generations-themed one-shots to examine what makes our two Thors (the original and currently “Unworthy Thor” and the Jane Foster “Mighty Thor”) worthy. Before Marvel enters into a new publishing era with Marvel Legacy, the company is publishing 10 Generations one-shots that introduce a newer iteration of an established superhero to their original counterpart. The first issue is Generations: Banner Hulk & The Totally Awesome Hulk #1 from the creative team of Greg Pak, Matteo Buffagni, Dono Sanchez-Almara and Cory Petit. Taken by itself, it’s a fine issue that answers the question of what happens when you toss Amadeus Cho’s free-spirited Hulk into the past to cross paths with Bruce Banner’s decidedly more pessimistic Hulk. Problems arise when the reader tries to patch together exactly where and when around the current Secret Empire saga these events take place. There have been a handful of “Serenity” comics published over the years, but none of them ever seemed like more than an average media-tie in… which is to say, they were unremarkable. Media-tie ins that are excellent seem to be the exception rather than the rule, so it’s always a relief when one starts firing on all cylinders. That’s the case with “Serenity: Leaves on the Wind,” which is finally a “Serenity” comic that I’d recommend to fans of the film and the “Firefly” television series. It’s not perfect, but “Serenity: Leaves on the Wind” #2 feels like a proper sequel to the film. The Year of the Horse is off to a great start with the release of Zack Whedon and Georges Jeanty’s “Serenity: Leaves on the Wind” #1, marking the beginning of an all-new story following “Firefly” fans’ favorite crew. Taking place a few short months after the events of the movie “Serenity,” the issue bounces all over the ‘verse to display the growing unrest among the Alliance’s citizens, just before landing Mal and his crew in a high-stake race to save one of their own. With a superb handling of dialogue and characterization, Whedon pens another “Firefly” story that’s sure to wend its way into the hearts of longtime fans, while Jeanty provides some lovely, intricate settings with lacking figure work for their debut issue. One of “Firefly’s” most captivating charms was its ability to spin cliches on their heads; Zack Whedon follows this tradition with an equally charming play on the notion of heroism, saving our big damn heroes’ grand first appearance until almost halfway through the

Composer Gō Shiina announced on Friday that he has retired from Bandai Namco Entertainment as of Friday. Shiina said that the past 20 years working for the company have been enjoyable, and that he is looking forward to a fresh start. Shiina's works with Bandai Namco have included God Eater, Tales of Zestiria, and The [email protected]. He has also composed music for anime such as Dimension W, Kyousogiga, and the upcoming Jūni Taisen: Zodiac War anime.
