Marvel’s Punisher Relaunch Delayed as Series Gets New Artist

Marvel has delayed the release of the first three issues of its relaunched Punisher series as Szymon Kudranski replaces originally solicited artist Riccardo Burchielli.

The publisher made the announcement in its weekly newsletter to retailers, pushing back the release of the debut issue by two weeks, from Aug. 1 to Aug. 22, and the second issue back five weeks, to Sept. 26. Kudranski (Doctor Strange: Damnation, Daredevil/Punisher: Seventh Circle) was already solicited for The Punisher #3, which has been delayed from Sept. 26 to Oct. 24.

Announced in April from writer Matthew Rosenberg and Burchielli, The Punisher is billed as a back-to-basics approach that will see the fan-favorite antihero Frank Castle trade in the stolen War Machine armor for his more traditional weaponry.

“We’re going to get back to Frank Castle with a handgun and a knife, stalking the streets of New York, and getting his hands dirty,” Rosenberg said at the time. “But we’re also going to see a man who has changed from his time in the armor. He developed a taste for bigger game and larger targets, and he’s not going to give that up easily. So in a sense it’s back to basics — but on a bigger scale.”
