News Spiral Manga Artist Eita Mizuno Launches Otherside Picnic Manga
New manga adapts Iori Miyazawa's survival fantasy light novel series

The December issue of Square Enix's Shonen Gangan magazine revealed on Friday that Eita Mizuno will launch a manga adaptation of Iori Miyazawa's Urasekai Picnic (Otherside Picnic) novel this winter.

The original novel is set in the modern world, but there exist doors that can take people to the "other side," where strange urban legends and internet stories prove to be true. College student Sorawo Kamikoshi finds herself exploring one of these doors, and almost dies on the other side, when she is rescued by another girl named Toriko Nishina. Toriko is mysterious but skilled with a gun, and she seems to be searching for someone else on the other side. Together, both girls explore these doors to the other side.

Hayakawa Shobo published Otherside Picnic - Futari no Kaii Tanken File, the first book in the series, in February with illustrations by shirakaba. The second book, titled Otherside Picnic - Hate no Hamabe no Resort Night, shipped on October 19.

Mizuno previously collaborated with writer Kyou Shirodaira on their mystery manga Spiral (Spiral ~ Suiri no Kizuna), which ended in 2005, and the Spiral: Alive prequel manga, which ended in 2008. Yen Press published the original manga in English beginning in 2007. The series inspired an anime adaptation in 2002, and FUNimation Entertainment released the series on DVD as one of its earlier titles. The pair also launched the Tengai-san wa Angai Futsū (She is more ordinary than I expected) manga in Shonen Gangan in August 2015, and ended it on April 12. Square Enix published the manga's fourth and final volume on June 22.
