Hey, this is a little late, but we actually took the time to binge a few of these before writing about them.

Today we are giving you ten psychological thriller anime.

we really enjoy this genre, because it immediately pulls you in and then you can’t help but binge watch the entire show in a day.

1. Tokyo Ghoul 

This is a relative newer anime that had no problem building a large fan base.

Ken Kaneki is thrown into a lifestyle, where he is not even considered normal by his counterparts.

The past two seasons have followed his development and the inner demons he is facing.

There are also other notable characters dealing with psychological problems, such as Yakumo Oomori and Yoshimura.

 

2. Steins;Gate 

we  will say this over and over, Steins;Gate is one of the best anime! Rintaro Okabe discovers time travel and is not prepared for the consequences of such a discovery.

He has to face most of the problems on his own, and it definitely takes a toll on his psychological well-being.

3. Erased 

The most recent anime on this list, and it is definitely worthy of your time.

The name and images are misleading, because the actual show itself is amazing.

Satoru Fujinuma possesses a skill, known as “revival”, and uses it in order to prevent tragedies.

The biggest tragedy he has to prevent happened 18 years ago, and he has to relive memories that he had locked away.

4. Puella Magi Madoka Magica 

My first viewing of this anime did not lead me to consider this psychological, but my second viewing showed me just how dark this anime is.

Characters are not who they seem to be and there are underlying motives in their actions.

This anime is a little different, in that the main character isn’t the one who is dealing with most of the psychological problems.

5. Death Parade 

There is no better way to truly get to know someone, than with a game.

A game that determines where your soul ends up, is on a whole other level of intense.

There is some trickery in these games and it only adds to the intensity of the situation.

6. Another 

This anime is actually kind of creepy, and not very predictable.

we had two things confirmed with this show, 1) dolls are way too creepy and 2) eye patches on any character just work.

The story keeps you guessing and that is what adds to the thrill of this anime.

7. The Future Diary

Yes, everyone should know that Yuno Gasai is legitimately insane and nobody should ever step to her.

The things that happened in this anime continuously blew my mind.

we kept watching just to see if it could get any crazier, and guess what? It does.

The future diary concept is great and the characters fit perfectly with their diaries.

8. Terror in Resonance

we recently discovered this anime and it is not a disappointment.

This anime has a V for Vendetta type-of-feel, which only adds to how great it is.

Twelve is also such an adorable character. This anime provides the type of situation where you root for the supposed “bad guys”.

9. Paranoia Agent

Nothing worse than lies from your past haunting your present.

The description of Lil’ Slugger was enough to convince me to watch: golden inline skates, a baseball cap, and a bent golden bat.

The character develops into much more than his appearance, as does Maromi, but discovering the truth behind it all will blow your mind and probably convince you to watch it again.

 

10. Serial Experiments Lain 

This anime is the epitome of psychological thriller. The story, the animation, and even the colors used play a role in developing this psychological roller coaster.

The story has a slow build up, but it actually proves to be worth it in the end. You will also probably get off your computer, once you finish binge watching it.
